Internationally renowned, Shinoda is known for her unique style of modern abstract calligraphy. Celebrating her 100th birthday earlier in the year, this exhibition contributes to an international commemoration of her lifetime’s work, and is her first solo show in Australia.
Trained in traditional calligraphy since early childhood, Shinoda has continuously challenged conventions to merge traditional calligraphic form with modern abstract expressionism. Her work explores negative space and balance, reflecting counterpoints of modernity and tradition, and Eastern and Western influences.
