Ralph works in both abstract and figurative modes when making his sculptures. This contrast of aesthetic – combining seemingly incongruous forms and materials – proves to be a most salient aspect of his work.
Ralph’s practice shifts between Brancusi-like, turned-wood totems to more organic forms of decadence, producing luxurious gold leaf on cast concrete, and wood sculptures reminiscent of intoxicated, classical maenads. This solo exhibition will be Ralph’s first with The Commercial, Sydney.
