Abdul-Rahman Abdullah & Anna-Louise Richardson: SHELTER

For Goolugatup Heathcote’s annual site-responsive commission TILT, Abdul-Rahman Abdullah and Anna Louise Richardson explore the many threads that bind birds and humans in their new body of work, SHELTER.

The exhibition draws on the idea that the site acts as a refuge for endemic bird species, thriving in a shared environment. Richardson presents a suite of large-scale charcoal drawings focusing on the iconic forms of Welcome Swallows in flight while Abdullah’s flock of life-sized Silver Gulls cast in gypsum composite, roost together on the gallery floor, waiting for nightfall.
