Aida Tomescu’s magnum opus, Eyes in the Heat will be the focal point of her exhibition at Sullivan+Strumpf in November. Irrevocably explosive, the diptych, after which the show is named, is Tomescu’s largest and most ambitious work to date. The exhibition will take command of both levels of the Gallery. With a career that spans over thirty-five years and thirty solo shows to date, Tomescu’s powerful abstract vision has marked her as one of Australia’s most distinctive artists.
Tomescu’s defining paintings see colours meet and formations arise. There is a sense of movement as each stroke thoughtfully surpasses the other. The gestures, composed with precision and time, are infused with a feeling of calmness that encourages reflection.
