Alan Jones wins 2015 Mosman Art Prize
Sydney artist Alan Jones has won the 2015 Mosman Art Prize – one of Australia’s most coveted painting prizes. Jones has won the $30,000 acquisitive main prize for his work, Painting 131, (North Coogee).
This year’s judge, Executive Officer, Museums & Galleries NSW Michael Rolfe, says, “His work has always interested me for its discordant approach to colour, shapes and texture used. But more than that I find his painting quite distinctive and representative of a way of seeing that gives me confidence in his picture making. Painting 131 (North Coogee) will prove to be a strong addition to the Mosman Collection.”
Meet some of the winning artists and selected finalists from 2015 Mosman Art Prize at their Meet the Artists program, it’s free and on Sunday 16 August 3pm-4pm. Bookings can be made via the gallery website. Visitors to the Mosman Art Prize can also vote in the Viewers’ Choice Award, with the winning artist taking home $1,000.
