Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook: Storytellers of the Town

Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook is one of Thailand’s foremost contemporary artists, whose practice is concerned with the fundamental aspects of life and death, collective experiences of history and fate, and the configuring of self through the redeployment of everyday images and situations.

‘Storytellers of the Town’ is a survey of work spanning two decades, including seminal installation and video works – a number of which have never been presented outside of Thailand, such as Has Girl Lost Her Memory (1994). This work presents the artist’s negotiations with traditional roles for women in Thailand, recognising the social restrictions placed on her mother and grandmother.
