Last year’s BEAMS Arts Festival boomed onto the Sydney cultural calendar with over 10,000 people in attendance with an array of visual and performance artists, actors, animators, artisans, architects, bespoke crafters, comedians, designers, dancers, entertainers, musicians, poets, production companies, creative contemplators and creative agencies.
Taking place on Saturday, September 20 from 5-10pm, the BEAMS Arts Festival will be opened by Lord Mayor Clover Moore and hosted by the Chippendale Creative Precinct. The laneways of Chippendale will be filled with 350 creatives working across a kaleidoscope of colour, light, movement and sound generating a veritable feast for the senses.
The program for 2014 will deliver an abundance of talent across many disciplines with a focus on the high calibre of creatives coming together to create the ultimate street party. This year will also see a greater involvement with over 120 exhibits from our most exciting, new emerging and cutting edge Sydney talent working across: visual and site specific installation; multi-media and interactive works; film, projections and digital projects; light and animation; performance and dance; live music, creative workshops and outdoor dining.
For one bright night Balfour Street and the eight surrounding laneways of Chippendale will be filled with the most daring works and performances from Sydney’s creative community. This year’s theme is UTOPIA, with BEAMS embracing works that open up new dialogues about the future of Sydney’s urban landscape. The level of interest and the number of works submitted for this year’s BEAMS Arts Festival has skyrocketed exponentially.
This is a huge testament to the success of the festival’s previous years and the willingness and passion of the Chippendale community and the wider Sydney creative community to see events like BEAMS continue to grow. Festival founder and Director Nicky Ginsberg says, “This festival is all about celebrating Sydney’s abundant creative community, while supporting local Chippendale creative minds and businesses, bringing art out into the streets and making it accessible to everyone, from all walks of life. We can’t wait to share the standout pieces and performances with our local community and beyond”.
The BEAMS Arts Festival is revitalising the creative community and reimagining the possibilities of the city through collaborative imagination.
