Beckler’s Botanical Bounty: The Flora of Menindee

Twenty Melbourne-based botanical illustrators took part in an eight-year project inspired by Dr Herman Beckler’s (1828-1914) collection of 120 valuable plant specimens from Menindee in NSW gathered while on expedition with Burke and Wills in 1860-61. In search of the same flora, the artists combed the outback region to collect, preserve and illustrate their findings. This exhibition of paintings, drawings and journals shares the group’s discovery of 60 of the original cuttings from 150 years ago.
