The Calleen Art Award is open to artists across Australia, and entries must be an unaided artwork in any painting medium: oils, acrylic or watercolour. The 2022 iteration includes the work of forty-nine selected finalists, including this year’s winner, Derek O’Connor.
Of his winning work, O’Connor notes: “I wanted to move away from the barrage of disposable images we are constantly exposed to. The painting becomes a visual artefact of the relationship between expression and paint, artist and medium and as such needs little explanation.”
