In 2022, Claire Belfrage’s time spent at the Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Studio was an immersive research and conceptual development period – filled with walking, writing, photographing, drawing, thinking, smelling, feeling, being. The patterns, colours, textures, and rhythms of nature – the moss, lichen, and bark reflective of the layering of time, life, death and decay, and the regeneration of the forest – inspired her new collection of small to medium-sized glass objects made in her Adelaide home studio and the hot glass studio at Adelaide’s JamFactory.
