Dance Massive V | What is dance and how far can it go?

‘Dance Massive’ is a showcase of 20 productions including 12 world premiere performances by some of Australia’s most outstanding dancers and choreographers over ten days from 14 to 26 March across Melbourne venues. Audiences will experience a spectrum of dance and movement and styles inviting the question ‘What is dance and how far can it go?’

‘Dance Massive’ highlights include new projects by Chunky Move’s artistic director Anouk van Dijk and multimedia artist Ho Tzu Nyen exploring the ethereal influence of clouds with Anti-Gravity. Lucy Guerin Inc presents Split, a drama in the dimensions of space and time while choreographer and performer James Batchelor brings Deepspace to the platform with new work that crosses art and science developed during a residency on Australia’s marine research vessel Investigator, and Rebecca Jensen (Deep Soulful Sweats) draws the viewer into the abyss with Deep Sea Dances.

Look out for other performances such as Martin Hansen’s If It’s All In My Veins, Mariaa Randall premiering Divercity, Prue Lang presents Stellar Project, and Nick Power’s approach to hip-hop culture with Between Tiny Cities. Thirty-two of Australia’s best street dancers will compete in Battle Massive, a free outdoor event at Federation Square.

“‘Dance Massive’ is not only a celebration of choreography, but the contemporary performance practice. Dance has the ability to cross boundaries, and the collaborations exploring both the physical and theoretical will no doubt result in some unique experiences and rich discussions,” says Arts House Artistic Director, Angharad Wynne-Jones.

Curated by Arts House, Dancehouse and Malthouse Theatre in association with Ausdance Victoria, ‘Dance Massive’ provides a unique dance platform dedicated to Australian artists.
