Deeply engaged, attuned and sensitive to the psychology and circumstances of the subjects he selects – whether that is a person or animal, domesticated or wild – Darren McDonald’s work is most often imbued with a sense of compassion and warmth. Yet, it is also inflected with wry humour and whimsy drawing his muse, and subsequently, the viewer, into his unique arcane world.
