This exhibition focuses on paintings closely observed from nature. Clarke’s way of working involves both observation and experiment and as he describes – “madness and discipline”.
For the artist to create work from a natural subject matter he must work directly in front of it and be submerged in its surrounds. He sees the outdoors as his studio which gives him the opportunity to react and define the structure, space, movement and shifting patterns. Clarke feels that within the natural environment there is harmony, however present at the same time is a rich impeding chaos.
