Eric Bridgeman: Melbourne Art Fair

Gallerysmith presents the work of Eric Bridgeman as part of their exhibition stand at the 2012 Melbourne Art Fair.

Issues of race, gender, and sexuality are central to Bridgeman’s practice work, which is born of a wide-ranging practice of photography, video, performance, installation and painting. The illustrated image here is from a large composite series of portraits, taken from – and sits alongside – a video work. The work explores the artist’s dual nationalities. Bridgman explains, “my Australian and Papua New Guinean heritage has been a constant driving force behind my practice; two nations of extreme difference that have motivated my interests in social and cultural critique”.
