The basement: photography from Prahran College (1968–1981)

Featuring the work of close to sixty artists, The basement brings to light vintage prints from the late 1960s to early 1980s, key archival ephemera and folio work from students and teachers of the Prahran College of Advanced Education’s Diploma of Art & Design (Photography).

A period where new discussions developed quickly around photography’s possibilities, these artists were part of an edgy, progressive wave of image-makers excited about the medium’s potential; fertile ground for the likes of Carol Jerrems, Bill Henson, Nanette Carter, Rod McNicol, Polly Borland and Peter Milne.
