Mia Boe: The Aboriginal Robot

Mia Boe, who is of Butchulla and Burmese ancestry, continues her exploration of the inheritance and disinheritance of culture in The Aboriginal Robot, a new body of work echoing the Le Guin notion: “Science fiction is not predictive, it is descriptive.”

Boe’s paintings imagine a dystopic reality where the landscape lies ravaged and depleted. Governments respond by creating an AI robot imbued with the wisdom of Aboriginal land management. As the Robot delves into the history of those who exploited and profited from the land, it sparks a revolutionary upheaval.
