Billy Bain, Amber Boardman, Michael Garbutt & Sehar Naz Janani, Rew Hanks, Lyndal Irons, Kellie O’Dempsey, Ben Rak, Abdullah M.I Syed, and Gerry Wedd are artists working in multi-disciplinary and experimental art practices who use sport as motifs and metaphor to inspire the viewer to reflect on the broader social issues: post-colonialism, environmentalism, belonging, masculinity, and mental health. Here, their works reflect how sport and art can empower expression – physically, emotionally, and intellectually – enabling audiences to connect and communicate worldwide across borders, cultures, languages, and generations.
