Thirty-two South Australian artists have been selected as finalists for the inaugural Emma Hack Art Prize. The artists include photographers, sculptors, painters and digital artists, and were chosen by judges Emma Hack, Greg Mackie, Mark Kimber and Trudy-Anne Brown, from more than 200 prize entries.
Judging criteria was based on meeting the prize theme of ‘My Environment’ and the creativity and technical capability within the theme.
The Emma Hack Art Prize Exhibition is part of the Adelaide Convention Centre’s Centre ArtBeat initiative, which was established in October 2013 to showcase the work of South Australian artists through regular exhibitions and artistic events.
The exhibition is also an official 2014 Adelaide Fringe Festival event and runs at the Centre until 30th March when the winner of the Emma Hack Art Prize will be announced.
The winner will receive $5,000 and an Emma Hack Art Prize sculpture by emerging glass artist Zoe Woods. A People’s Choice Award winner will receive $2,000, kindly gifted by Raw Pearls.
“The theme ‘My Environment’ proved a wonderful challenge and the entries were well thought out and executed – it was a really difficult job judging due to the quality of entries.” says Prize founder Emma Hack.
The Adelaide Convention Centre will exhibit the works of the finalists, host the exhibition launch and offer the winner an opportunity to host their own solo exhibition at the Centre.
