‘Oh, I’ve heard about your work, Franck. Can we have a look please?’ – Ros (Rozzi) George
‘A thousand miles from everywhere’ is situated in the studio of painter, sculptor and printmaker, Franck Gohier, whose socio-politically informed art responds – with parody and pastiche – to the lived experiences and consciousness of the ‘remote’‚ ‘strange place’ known as Darwin. An extension of the exhibition of the same name, this publication considers Gohier’s work through the writings of Dr Wendy Garden and curator Glenn Barkley, supported by the artist’s own words from a recent interview. Peruse the colourful pages to see photographs of Gohier’s studio, and discover Pop art inspired creations brimming with iconic imagery from comics, film and television.
