Frank Littler: Things are more like they are today than they ever were before

Donald Brook once described Frank Littler’s work as “an imaginative force of technical skill”. That was over 30 years ago. This force is ever present in this exhibition of intriguing paintings by Frank Littler. His humorous idiosyncratic explorations into the ordinary are a wondrous challenge to unravel in ones’ mind.

Littler’s work would have us bear in mind that humour can explore as far into the secret reaches of the mind as can serious contemplation. Further, according to our peculiarities, his work challenges us in one of two ways: some of us must make the leap from enjoyment of the formal beauty in his work to a fascination with his intriguing and idiosyncratic content.
