‘From The Fire’ brings together a selection of artworks made by people who experienced the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009. This exhibition captures the destruction wrought by the fires and the emotional aftermath, with a focus on the psychological impacts of such trauma.
These artworks embody the physical and mental mechanisms of survival of the artists, which has been intimately connected to the changing landscape and the rebuilding of their lives and communities. ‘From The Fire’ features the artwork of a number of professional artists working across a range of media, as well as artworks made by children from Yarra Glen Primary School in the weeks, months and years following the fires.
