Curated by Sebastian Goldspink, this group exhibition explores the intersection of basketball and contemporary art. Artists Biljana Jancic, Danny Morse, Hamishi, Julian Meagher, Mark Whalen, Nicole Breedon, Phil James, Sarah Oxenham, Tristan Chant, Tully Arnot and Will Cooke each have a history of works involved with basketball or a personal passion for the sport.
The title of the show references a defensive basketball tactic in which the defense applies man-to-man or zone defense to pressure the offensive team the entire length of the court before and after the inbound pass. The collection of works explores themes of masculinity, American cultural imperialism and status anxiety related to material acquisition of foreign apparel and culture.
