Gemma Smith: New Paintings

Australian artist, Gemma Smith, renown for sculpture and painting, showcases a new series of work in ‘New Paintings’ at Milani Gallery. The exhibition further explores her fascination with color theory and pictorial depth. The abstract works in natural hues of blue, browns and reds are an interesting development for the artist whose career has been supported and encouraged through numerous exhibitions nationwide and a reserves a place in the permanent collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales as well as several universities. This series uses the thick curved lines and organic shapes that were prevalent in her earlier paintings, yet marks a departure from the sharp geometric construction of her sculptural work that has been commissioned for many public arenas such as Brisbane Airport.
