In 1997 Utopia Art Sydney staged George Tjungurrayi’s first solo exhibition and now, two decades on, the artist presents new and recent paintings with the gallery on the cusp of participating on the global stage in the Biennale of Sydney. Though seeded in the mentorship of Pintupi masters at Papunya in the late 1970s, his mesmerising non-figurative approach has been lauded as contemporary and one that crosses cultural boundaries.
