Celebrating the oeuvre of artist Goobalathaldin Dick Roughsey (1920-1985), the Queensland Art Gallery in collaboration with Cairns Art Gallery presents ‘Stories of this Land’, the first major retrospective of his practice.
A selection of bark pieces, paintings, ceremonial and historical objects, illustrations from his children’s book and three storybook films document Roughsey’s career and herald the valuable contribution he made to Indigenous art and culture from his exploration of traditional practices, stories and ceremonies, and the social effects of missionary life and activity.
