Congratulations to the thirty contemporary Australian artists who have been announced as the 2023 finalists for the $100,000 acquisitive landscape art prize.
Selected for the best portrayal of the Australian landscape, this year’s list of finalists features representation from every state in Australia and includes leading Australian artists alongside emerging and early-career artists. The 2023 finalists are:
Dr Amanda Johnson, Joshua Andree, Raymond Arnold, Michaye Boulter, Denise Brady, Eileen Bray Joomen, Maringka Burton, Faith Butler, Betty Chimney, Hannah Cooper, Nellie Coulthard, Yatjiki Cullinan, Sebastian Di Mauro, Megan Evans, Jillian Giles, Mabel Juli, Kieren Karritpul, Melissa Kenihan, Donna Marcus, Julieanne Ngwarraye Morton, Patrick Mung Mung, Allen Munggi Stephensen, Dulcie Nanala, Joan Ross, Delores Tipuamantumirri, Irene Torres, Megan Walch, Alex Wanders, Joe Whyte, and Philip Wolfhagen.

The 2023 judging panel comprises artists Wendy Sharpe, Milan Milojevic, and Fiona Foley, who have selected works that span a range of mediums, from oil, acrylic, gouache and beeswax, to natural ochre and dyes, weaving, crochet, aluminium, and steel.
Milojevic said,
“This year’s exhibition of finalists is strong and diverse, with a notable focus on historical and contemporary issues and the various ways in which they manifest, in particular climate change.”
As well as the Major Prize of $100,000, there is a $10,000 Residency Prize, a $2500 People’s Choice Award, a $1000 Packing Room Prize, and $1,500 worth of prizes for students.
The Hadley’s Art Prize 2023 finalist exhibition will take place at Hadley’s Orient Hotel, Hobart, from 22 July to 20 August 2023, with the winner announced at the opening on Friday 21 July.
