Across four categories, thirteen judges and 150 finalists, Head On Awards represent a global selection of the best work from emerging and established photographers, photo journalists and artists.
The Head On Portrait Prize, is one of Australia’s most critically acclaimed photographic portrait competitions and one of the flagship events of the annual Head On Photo Festival.
On Friday 29 April, at Head On Photo Festival Launch in Sydney Lower Town Hall, this year’s Prize was taken out by Madrid-based photojournalist Antonio Heredia for his portrait of brain cancer survivor, Oscar Prieto, titled Survivor. Second prize went to Giles Clarke for Toxic Trespass Sameer 16 Years Old, demonstrating the effects of contaminated water supply in India’s Jamalpura neighborhood whilst Kristian Taylor-Wood received third place with his work entitled, HighScroller – Lauren Winzer.

Work from all 40 finalists of this year’s Head On Portrait Prize can be viewed at the Museum of Sydney until 5 June 2016.
