Hossein Valamanesh and his son Nassiem Valamanesh present Char Soo (2015), a video installation that has travelled across Australia with its origin in Iran. Approaching what it means to experience diaspora, the artists use ambient sound, the passing of time and culturally specific visual cues to create a sensuous experience. Four stationary cameras lend a voyeuristic view in emphasising that this is a slice of life pulled from a rich social fabric. In tandem Nassiem’s film-work Passing Time (2011) is visible within a black box, the artist’s fingers snake and form the sign for infinity, as the loop plays we understand the visual and intellectual symbolism.
Touring to: Carriageworks, Adelaide Film Festival, Anne & Gordon Samstag Museum of Art and the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, University of Western Australia in association with Sydney Film Festival and produced by Felix Media.
