Dutch masters of light: Hendrik Kerstens and Erwin Olaf

Internationally acclaimed photographers, Hendrik Kerstens and Erwin Olaf reinterpret the chiaroscuro effects of Rembrandt, Vermeer and other Dutch greats in a series of contemporary portraits and landscapes.

In elaborately staged theatrical backdrops, or flawlessly poised portraits with painterly lighting, Kerstens and Olaf produce evocative and meticulously composed images of formal perfection. Ultimately, these highly emotive photographs draw attention to the liminal nature of contemporary life, to everyday scenes and events.

‘Dutch masters of light: Hendrik Kerstens and Erwin Olaf’ is part of a series of events that mark the 400th anniversary of the first Dutch contact with Western Australia.
