Jacqueline Balassa: The Artist as Traveller

Jacqueline Balassa follows the tradition of a travelling artist, creating sketches and colour-notes onsite before collating her thoughts and memories of landscapes in the studio. Balassa’s delicate balance of light, colour, pattern and shape aims to conjure a sense of place, in accord with her unique depictions of the pristine wilderness and cultural heritage of South America, Africa, Europe and outback Australia. In her world, the landscape is benign and welcoming, with only the slightest hint suggesting otherwise.
