John Waters: Elevate

John Waters’ latest body of work attempts to capture the beauty and drama of life with elements of landscapes, architecture, shadows, skyscapes and loved objects in reflections, projections and mysterious combinations, to create works that refresh the memory and a sense of wonder experienced in those moments of awareness.

Waters’ practice is a painstaking one; focused on an attention to surface and finish that is clearly evident in the vibrant results of his toil. His work often reflects the concept of the ‘world within a world,’ clearly referencing the cartoon medium, in which the narrator is often thrown into the world of the central characters unexpectedly. This idea is reflected in ‘Elevate’, where works feature multiple planes of reality.
