The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA), in collaboration with the Heide Museum of Modern Art (Heide) in Melbourne, presents ‘As If’ – a major retrospective of work by renowned Australian artist, Ken Whisson.
The exhibition presents more than 200 works of varying style = from portraits and landscapes to his unique sketches – and traces his practice across the six decades of his career. Co-curated by Lesley Harding (Heide) and Glenn Barkely (MCA), the exhibition premiered in Melbourne early in 2012 and is now installed and open to the public on level 3 of Sydney’s MCA.
The curators led a preview tour of the freshly installed exhibition on Thursday. About working on this exhibition, Barkley said: “We are honoured to be working with Ken whose singular vision and dedication to his practice has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to artists across generations.”
Art Almanac’s September Issue featured the work Post-abstract Jeu d’Esprit (2/3/10, 20/12/10) on its front cover as well as a preview-review of the exhibition, in which Anna Madeleine discusses this unique vision and dedication of the Whisson to which Barkley refers.
A fully illustrated catalogue has been produced to accompany the exhibition, which runs until November 23.
