Dwelling by Kylie Banyard is the result of an ongoing exploration into the idea of staging alternatives – other ways of seeing and other ways of living. At Galerie pompom, Banyard presents a series of work based on unusual, D.I.Y owner-builder dwellings typical to communal settlements. These other-worldly places speak of a haven of experimental ideas and the romanticism she imposes upon these places is integral to their construction. Two of the paintings can be viewed through kaleidoscopes – instead of looking to technological advancement, Banyard reinvents simple, manual technologies to provide an unexpected, psychedelic view of the subject matter. Dwelling is a captivating series of work that uses intricate pattern, geometric structures, vivid landscapes, and transformations of these forms, to re-consider new and experimental ways of inhabiting the world.
