Emerging artists Kylie Wallace-Smith and James Gummow reflect on the processes of change along with the idea of adapting to new environments through intensely colourful paintings and soft sculpture. Together they explore themes of transformation in form, appearance, nature and character.
Wallace-Smith’s works interpret her everyday experiences, inner-world and interactions through the use of vivid colour combined with a love of animals. Gummow uses a variety of techniques as he re-makes discarded items – once loved, and special but now unwanted. By deconstructing and reassembling them he sculpts his creatures with unique narratives and personas. Death, loss, love and rebirth are recurring concepts for his work.
