In this, the final exhibition of works from the Estate of Margaret Olley, there are over 40 examples of both paintings and water colours by this much loved artist. The proceeds of this exhibition go to the Margaret Olley Art Trust, which continues her philanthropic support for galleries and the arts generally.
The works span an incredible 64 years of prodigious output, starting with two of the earliest paintings she ever exhibited, North Sydney and Era Landscape, both dating from 1947. These two seminal paintings have always stayed in her possession, and have been included in all the books written on her. Five works were all completed in 2011 and were destined for the exhibition that she was working towards on the weekend she died. They represent the full circle of her oeuvre, emphasising the familiar and the every day, imbued with a magic and a clarity of observation that was all her own.
