Megan Cope shares ‘The Black Napoleon’ and ‘RE FORMATION I’ which celebrate past and present acts of defying Empire. Archives accessed in an Australian Print Workshop residency in France inspired the first work, lithographs that reflect on the story of the Aboriginal leader Eulope from Moreton Bay, who led the Quandamooka people in their resistance battles against British forces. A Quandamooka artist herself, Cope’s ‘RE FORMATION I’ reinforces Aboriginal ownership and connection to land, grounded in the legacy of shell midden sites. This showcase is held in parallel with ‘Bungaree’s Farm’, surveying the Aboriginal leader’s achievements.
