Michelle Henry: Song of Songs

Each painting in this exhibition depicts a single plant species (the Anthurium) at various stages in its growth and investigates the parallels between the sensuality (and sexuality) of a pair of lovers and their equivalent in the plant world.

The title of each painting is taken from a line of the erotic verse written circa 900BC which traces the journey of a pair of lovers from courtship to consummation. This piece of poetry from the Old Testament is a perfect fit for the paintings which use colour and composition of the anthodium as metaphor for love and lust.
