“Dabbling in gravel”, photographer Mike Reed presents a graphical study of road surfaces around the world: Hong Kong, Paris, Tokyo, London, Rome, New York, Melbourne, and Sydney, even one photograph from Cairns Airport.
Whether we veer down the long road, off-road, back road, winding road and so on, roads inevitably lead us from point A to B, towards our fates and fortunes. Here, Reed stops looking ahead and turns downwards to the bitumen, asphalt, blacktop, tarmac, macadam, or the space between two potholes: the material that grounds us.
