Nawurapu Wunungmurra and Djirrirra Wunungmurra Yukuwa: Black & White

In ‘Black & White’, brother and sister share stories of identity, family and connection to the natural world. Nawurapu Wunungmurra draws on his knowledge of sacred clan designs with depictions of Wangupini (the wet season) on larrakitj (memorial poles). Djirrirra Wunungmurra frames the installation with a series of dynamic works on board. Known for painting her namesake Yukuwa (the yam plant), Wunungmurra’s representations express renewal and inter-connectedness of her culture with place and family ties.
