New Lines

New Lines is Rex-Livingston Projects’ inaugural exhibition for 2013 with seven new generation artists  exploring traditional and contemporary art practice in the 21st century. Interesting in this exhibition is the stark contrast between conceptions of the city and landscape. Common themes in the work of artists such as Chris Bennett and Michael Hazell are an antipathy and uncertainty towards the modern world. The work of Rudy Kistler on the other hand takes a more idyllic look at the Australian landscape, evoking light through a consideration of the materiality of oil paint as a medium. Joe Wilson’s work considers the relationship of painter to work and work to audience, with a philosophical product, not unlike the work of Dan O’Toole, who presents a deeply personal photographic series.  Sydney artist BENNETT works with found materials and tactile surface, while Joseph Purtle presents sophisticated ceramics.
