‘Next Wave’ features 31 world-premiere productions in creative spaces, theatres and galleries across the city of Melbourne from 3 to 20 May. Solo and curated exhibitions, workshops, inspiring dialogue and a lively program of performance-based works will showcase diversity in Australian artistic practices with questions directed at current social and world matters.
Festival highlights include the highly charged ‘Apokalypsis’ – 100 historical disasters presented in 60 mins – Kai Bradley, Rosie Clynes, Marcus McKenzie, Charles Purcell. ‘Deep Water Dream Girl’ by sculptor and filmmaker Athena Thebus considers queer identity, Catholicism and Filipina femininity, while Taree Sansbury’s dance-based piece ‘mi:wi’ explores climate change, culture and new generations.
