Nigel Sense works with stencil, printmaking and collage to create works with a textural quality and strong graphic nature. Strongly influenced by pop art and American Abstract Expressionist movements, Sense’s humourous commentary on pop culture and the art world provokes viewers to question, and laugh at, the artist’s role in contemporary society.
“If we had all listened to and obeyed our parents, would there be the Ramones? Would Jackson Pollock have stopped drinking and become an insurance salesman? We are lucky they didn’t. But what if they did?”, asks Sense. “These works are an exploration into this fantasy (or nightmare?). Whichever it is, they are committed to changing the childhood memories of the heroes that shaped us.”
