Sydney based inter-disciplinary arts organisation, Performance Space celebrates 30 years of groundbreaking work from Wednesday 20th November to Sunday 1st December. This 12-day festival will showcase a series of performances from some of Australia’s most dynamic and thought-provoking artists across multiple mediums.
Featuring a series of free events including a commemorative film from emerging female four-piece, Brown Council, as well as an ideas explosion from the most vibrant past Directors, celebrating 30 years of Performance Space history. Expect to see Rosalind Crisp’s world class international trio of dancers, as well as be mesmerised by Nigel Kellaway’s premiere of his avant-garde theatrical masterpiece, Brief Synopsis.
Brief Synopsis is a theatrical performance that intertwines media to produce a cutting-edge and modern-day opera featuring a photographic installation as well as a live contemporary musical performance by musicians. Original and breathtaking in its absurdity, this is the tour de force of Performance Space’s 30 year anniversary.
Box of Birds is a psychological mind-teaser that plays with our senses by enthralling the audience with fashion, dance, performance, photography and audio readings. It is a compellingly unique addition to this year’s roster of events and certainly not one to be missed by any art enthusiast who relishes the idea of pushing boundaries of mind, body and space.
Celebrating 30 years is a tremendous achievement for Performance Space and the art world in general. By celebrating these artists and the history of Performance Space we pay tribute to not only Art in Australia but also the movements that have been initiated over the past three decades by these ground-breaking men and women.
