The winners of this year’s Manningham Victorian Ceramic Art Award were announced this week with the top gong, $5,000 acquisitive prize awarded to Petrus Spronk for his work Landscape of the mind.
David Hurlston, curator NGV Australia, judged and presented the awards on Wednesday night. The Valley of the Arts Acquisitive Awards (up to $4,000) were awarded to Tracy Muirhead for her work Utensils, Terunobu Hirata’s Facetted vase with triangular top, and Alan Constable’s Not titled (blue concertina camera).
General Acquisitions included Neville French’s Mungo Light 7, Janetta Kerr-Grant’s Urban Light, Winter, and Stone Jugs by Vanessa Lucas.
The 46 finalists were selected from over 140 entries from across Victoria. The award recognises excellence in the field of studio ceramics and surveys the full scope from functional ware through to sculptural and conceptual works.
Manningham Victorian Ceramic Art Award was first established and developed in 2009 by Manningham Council to support Victorian Studio Ceramics and acknowledge the importance of ceramics in the region.
