Sam Leach: Dymaxion

Leach is heavily influenced by science and technology, where new scientific discoveries change our understanding and relationship between human and non-human worlds. Leach’s paintings bring together a multiplicity of references, most notably geometric abstraction and scientific depictions of animals. This tension between representation and abstraction combines historical references and utopian modernism, a reimagining of the workings of the contemporary world.

Bringing these influences together into canvases that have a classic feel while retaining a sense of science fiction, an alternative world or altered past, Leach creates paintings that speak of a shared world between what is known and what is imagined, and references the past while proposing possibilities for the future of nature, science and art.
