Sam Martin’s artistic practice is centred on figurative abstraction in a contemporary context. Martin’s canvases document the complexity of interpersonal and internal dialogue, tracking the relationship between an overcrowded landscape and the excess of cerebral pollutants that define our movements.
Martin’s compositions envelope figures that are conversing and communicating within urban spaces of enclosure – such as trams and cafés; sites of dialogue, acting as a metaphor for human thought and discussion. Sam’s work dissects psychological conditions within society through colour, form, scale and line.
