Spotlight: Paddington Art Prize, a family-run initiative

Founded and principally sponsored by arts patron Marlene Antico OAM, Paddington Art Prize – an annual national acquisitive prize awarded for a painting inspired by the Australian landscape – enters its twentieth year of continued encouragement and support of contemporary artists, particularly those with limited opportunities due to financial constraints, by offering a significant monetary first prize valued at $30,000.

Each year the Prize aims to discover new talents and invigorate the art market with iconic styles that reflect Australia’s topography and “cultural ethos.” A family-run initiative, the connectedness extends to finalists and winners who become life-long members with subsequent career highlights celebrated and shared online. Call for entries to this year’s edition are now open.

Marlene Antico OAM (Founder/Principal Sponsor), Chris Antico (Co-Sponsor) with Tony Costa (2014 Paddington Art Prize Winner), Jeanette Siebols (Visual Artist & Senior Lecturer in Visual Arts at Australian Catholic University), and Andrew Trealor (Paddington Art Prize Administrative Coordinator, 2013–17) at the 2022 Paddington Art Prize Annual Luncheon, Buon Ricordo Italian Restaurant, Sydney
