Susan Buret: for the love of vermillion

Using geometric forms of the grid or the circle, Buret’s work creates patterns that can be seen across cultures to embellish architecture, textiles and domestic artifacts. The works play with visual phenomena that occurs for a viewer trying to resolve the pattern, referencing the way we apply pattern through colour and form to our environment.

“Like many artists, I am almost subliminally affected by the colours and patterns that occur in my environment”, says Buret. “I have no interest in figuration or representative works, colours manifest themselves as I construct patterns from the grids with the lush greens of spring growth, the rich vermillion and scarlet of the dahlias of high summer and the golden tones of autumn”, Buret remarks.
