‘Interzone’ was created during Sonia Payes’ Australia China Art Foundation Residency and is an unusual portrait of China. Payes’ photographs of the world’s most populous country are completely void of human presence, apart from ominous looking buildings and power lines that litter the landscape through heavy fog.
The exhibition explores a zone in between man and nature, revealing a hint of the sublime within the stark and severe environment of an abandoned civilisation.
