Sydney Contemporary 2013

Sydney Contemporary kicked off with a bang on Thursday night with Carriageworks packed full of VIPs, artists, and art lovers to see what the inaugural art fair had to offer.

Although the amount of people made it difficult to see much of the art on opening night, the atmosphere was buzzing and the space is incredible – for many of us this is the first glimpse of the newly opened second warehouse space at Carriageworks and it certainly is impressive, perfectly housing the 80+ galleries that are showcasing in Sydney Contemporary from Australia and around the world.

As well as commercial galleries showing the well known names, are a selection of Artist Run Initiatives which give emerging artists a chance to be seen with some exciting experimental work. There are also large scale installations, a video exhibition, contemporary art for the kids, an exciting program of talks, walks and tours, an exclusive VIP lounge, and of course all your favourite art publications (be sure to visit us at Art Almanac near the coffee stand to the left of the front entrance!).

If the opening night is anything to go by, Sydney Contemporary is bound to be a raging success, and will be an exciting addition to Australia’s contemporary art calendar. If you’re considering a visit this weekend, come on down!

Sydney Contemporary is on at Carriageworks, Redfern, this weekend September 20 – 22, 2013. To buy tickets, click here, and for the program, click here.
